Her ancestors
Maria’s great, great grandmother [192] Anna Jäckel Wagener [E192], immigrated from Görlitz, Germany, in 1737. Anna’s husband Melchior died in Görlitz between 1726 and 1737.
Maria’s great grandfather, Abraham Wagner [E 193] (March 22, 1715–May 5, 1763), was a physician. He as a practitioner in Physick (medicine) and a well-known physician, prolific hymn writer, and benefactor.
Maria’s grandfather was Mechior Wagner [E194] (Dec 12, 1725–Oct 22, 1784).
Her parents
Her father was [194-4] David Wagner (Jan 25, 1752–Aug 26, 1799). Maria’s mother was Rebecca Supplee, (Nov 25, 1751–Feb 28, 1813). [192-8] Maria was #2 of 10 children.
Later, at his farm in Pennsylvania, David was much involved with Jemima Wilkinson, aka The Public Universal Friend. In 1787, David moved his family to Wilkinson’s settlement in Penn Yan, New York. He was very anxious about his religious life. Eventually, he associated with Methodists and finally joined Wilkinson’s movement. In December 1788, he wrote a letter to the Schwenkfelder Society, separating himself from the Society. (GR. pp. 1444-1446; The Public Universal Friend, by Paul B. Moyer, 2015)
