Plan for at least two hours if you're here to see the museum. Plan for a half day or more if you're here to research. And if you haven't reserved a barn tour, do it before you arrive — availability is limited and it's one of the most distinctive experiences in the region.

Permanent Exhibits

The permanent collection spans Pennsylvania German life from the 1700s through the early 1900s — often including Fraktur decorated manuscripts, hand-woven coverlets and textiles, furniture, farm tools, religious documents, and household objects that tell the story of the communities who built this region. The Fraktur gallery alone holds one of the world's largest collections of Pennsylvania German illuminated manuscripts, including Taufschein birth and baptismal certificates that serve as primary genealogical records.

Changing Exhibits

New stories rotate through the gallery space throughout the year, giving repeat visitors fresh reasons to return and giving first-time visitors a chance to see the collection from a new angle. Check the current exhibit before you visit so you know what's on the floor.
