How We Ate, which first published in 2024, is the culmination of decades of research by Keyser in everything associated with food within the Pennsylvania Dutch culture. The massive tome describes the places where cooking took place, the types of foods eaten, the procurement of ingredients, and even recipes from old “receipt books.” Thoroughly indexed, it provides the scholar as well as the interested reader with detail and delight.
