Built in Philadelphia in 1733, the St. Andrew completed its maiden voyage to Rotterdam under master Captain John Stedman when it docked in Philadelphia on September 22, 1734. The St Andrew was owned by three London merchants and operated out of Second Street in Philadelphia by managers Charles and Alexander Stedman. The boat was a three-masted, squared-sterned galley of ca. 150 tons. There was a crew of 15 as well as 8 guns. According to Christopher Schultz’s account as a passenger on this ship and newspaper advertisements, the vessel was specially fitted out with accommodations for 250–300 passengers including compartments.
