Cultural Exchange Between Delaware Tribe Cultural Education Department and Schwenkfelder Library & Heritage Center

A hint of what is in the Lenape collection at the Heritage Center
The Heritage Center is embarking upon a multi-year cultural exchange project with the Delaware Tribe of Indians (Oklahoma). Building upon a Statement of Mutual Intentions signed last summer, this project will develop programming over the next two years and a co-curated exhibit to open in spring 2027. Visitors will have the opportunity to engage with the original residents of the Upper Perkiomen region, and the Delaware tribe members will engage with their homeland. While the Heritage Center has exhibited some of its sizeable collection of Lenape items in the past, this project will allow us to present the topics with an authentically developed indigenous perspective.
Check out this page periodically for updates on project progress and for a calendar of dates for the programs and exhibit as they are finalized.
The project has been supported by The Pew Center for Arts & Heritage. To read the full list of new grantees, see pewcenterarts.org/2025 grants.
